Q: Hallo?
A: Yes.

Q: How much human knowledge is there?
A: A lot. More than enough for one human brain. Human knowledge is far more plentiful than most anoraks at the garden centre imagine.

Q: Is it OK to go to the garden centre but not wear an anorak?
A: Yes. You can go to the garden centre wearing an ill-fitting Christmas jumper your mother knitted for you five years ago, or a dinner jacket. But perhaps don't wear the jumper under the dinner jacket.

Q: Of course not. But if one wore the jumper over the dinner jacket, it would reduce the appeal of the dinner jacket, wouldn't it?
A: Yes. It would reduce the immediate visual appeal of the dinner jacket. But the theoretical appeal of the dinner jacket as a sartorial stratagem would remain undiminished. In a garden centre, no one would expect a man wearing a dinner jacket to be a professional shoplifter.

Q: I am interested in Entire Human Knowledge.
A: What is your question?

Q: Why am I am interested in Entire Human Knowledge?
A: Because you are deeply ignorant; transcendentally ignorant; so ignorant that almost every fragment of knowable human knowledge is unknown to you.

Q: So some human knowledge is unknowable then? I didn't know that.
A: Yes it is, and no you didn't.

Q: Which human knowledge is unknowable?
A: No one knows.

Q: I find that I have an unquenchable hunger and thirst for Entire Human Knowledge. What can I do?
A: Read Plato's Republic in the original Greek.

Q: I've tried that. It didn't help. Why didn't reading Plato in the original Greek work for me?
A: Are you fluent in Ancient Greek?

Q: No. I don't know any Ancient Greek at all. And I am not fluent in modern Greek, either.
A: If you don't have Greek, there is little to be gained from reading Plato in the original Greek. You won't understand it.

Q: What, then, can I do to address my unquenchable hunger and thirst for Entire Human Knowledge?
A: Read George Eliot's Middlemarch in the original English.

Q: Is George Eliot's Middlemarch equivalent in importance to Plato's Republic, as far as Entire Human Knowledge is concerned?
A: Yes. There are minor differences of context, style and authorial intent, but they have approximately the same canonical status within Entire Human Knowledge.

Q: What is that canonical status?
A: 7.

Q: What does that mean?
A: It means that within the canon of truly significant writing thus far produced by human civilisation on this planet, only six works, or clusters of works, are more important than Plato's Republic or George Eliot's Middlemarch.

Q: Does that suggest that there are flaws in the writing of Plato and George Eliot?
A: Serious flaws, yes.

Q: What are those flaws?
A: First, Plato makes no attempt to explain why Casaubon died only eighteen months after marrying Dorothea Brooke. Second, Eliot completely fails to notice Will Ladislaw's obsession with Socratic Dialogue.

Q: What are the reasons for those literary deficiencies?
A: There are two reasons. First, it is plain that Plato never bothered to engage in a close reading of George Eliot. Second, George Eliot was obviously so blinded by the intellectual gymnastics of Mr Bambridge that the steady cerebral rigour of Will Ladislaw escaped her attention.

Q: Do these howling deficiencies undermine the integrity of Entire Human Knowledge?
A: Only if they are allowed to do so by the gatekeepers of 21st Century cultural taste. It may not be too late.

Q: What can be done to prevent further decline?
A: More attention might be paid to items 1 to 6 in the canonical hierarchy of significant texts.

Q: What are those texts?
A: No one knows. They were all burned in the first fire at the Alexandrian Library in 391CE.

Q: That would appear to present an unsurmountable obstacle to my quest for Entire Human Knowledge.
A: Not necessarily.

Q: You mean there's hope for me?
A: Yes. You might consider developing personal omniscience.

Q: That's a good idea. If I was omniscient, I would know what was burned at the Alexandrian Library, before it actually was burned, and I could retrieve the unburned texts by an act of concentrated thought.
A: You could indeed.

Q: Why has no one done this before?
A: People have. Nazis, mostly.

Q: How do you mean?
A: Before the Nazis burn down a document store such as the Reichstag, they extract the documents first. Thus they retain a record of the textual content of the incinerated documents.

Q: That's useful.
A: Yes. And then, after the Second World War, they can take the documents to America and start work all over again.

On Tuesday 6th December 2016, Albrecht von Boeselager (Germany) was sacked from his position as Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Malta. This was in direct defiance of the clearly-stated wishes of the Pope and the Vatican.

The Knights of Malta are Roman Catholicism's oldest military and chivalric Order, dating from the eleventh century CE. The full name they give themselves is The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta.

Boeselager's dismissal was the result of a conspiracy between the Grand Master of the Order, Matthew Festing (England), and Cardinal Raymond Burke (USA). Burke is thought to have been the prime mover in the plot.

The row was presented as having something to do with the distribution of condoms in Africa and Myanmar. It was nothing of the sort. It was an engineered end-time row about conservative spiritual fascism (Festing and Burke) versus liberal and compassionate pastoral policy (the Pope) within Roman Churchianity.

Festing and Burke pretended that Boeselager's sacking was in accordance with the wishes of the Holy See (Pope + Vatican). Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican's Secretary of State, wrote to Festing clarifying that the Pope did not want Boeselager sacked.

Because the Pope's wishes were countermanded, the Vatican set up a formal investigation into the Knights of Malta. This investigation was led by Archbishop Silvano Tomasi who had a team of four people to assist him with his enquiries: Gianfranco Ghirlanda (former rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University), Marc Odendall (investment banker), Jacques de Liedekerke (lawyer) and Marwan Sehnaoui (President of the Order of Malta in Lebanon).

Matthew Festing told the Pope that the sacking of Boeselager was an internal matter for the Knights of Malta. The Vatican had no right to interfere because the Knights of Malta were a sovereign entity.

Festing was talking nonsense. The Knights of Malta is a Catholic religious Order. The leaders of that Order had each taken solemn religious vows to obey the Pope. The sacking of Boeselager was a naked act of disobedience. The Vatican had every right, after an investigation, to issue a ruling and define a remedy.

For the first three weeks of January 2017, Festing persisted in his view that a papal investigation into the matter was unwarranted. A new compliant placeman, John Critien, was installed as Grand Chancellor by Festing and Burke. Critien wrote to the Order's membership telling them that they could not collaborate with the Pope's investigation because it was judicially irrelevant. No member of the Order could give evidence which contradicted Festing's decision to sack Boeselager.

Critien, like Festing, was talking nonsense. The issue of Boeselager's sacking and the Vatican's consequent investigation into that act was not about the sovereignty of the Knights of Malta; it was about disobeying the Pope and the Holy See.

The Order has an umbilical cord with the Vatican. Its sovereignty would be meaningless if that cord was severed. The Order’s claim to sovereignty is grounded in the Pope alone. He could terminate it with a stroke of a pen. It was a fantasy to suppose that the Knights of Malta could have a future, even as an historical relic, without the Vatican.

In January 2017, exactly what the Vatican would decide to do was not immediately clear. There seemed to be five main possibilities:

(1) Do nothing. Sweep the whole thing under the carpet. Justify this on pastoral grounds by talking about a need to move on and allowing proper time for the healing of wounds. Forgive Boeselager and offer him a spectacular promotion elsewhere.

(2) Sack and/or excommunicate Festing and Critien. Move Burke to a sinecure elsewhere. Reinstate Boeselager.

(3) Sack and/or excommunicate Festing, Critien and every senior First Class Knight who supported them. Move Burke. Reinstate Boeselager.

(4) Dispense Festing, Critien and all their First and Second Class allies from their religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. As many as thirty individuals might be involved. According to the Order's rules, these thirty could not then continue in leadership placements because in Canon Law they would no longer be solemnly professed religious. Move Burke. Reinstate Boeselager.

(5) Appoint an external commissioner over the heads of Festing and Burke. Vatican takes control of every aspect of the Order's administration, including appointments, management, documents, website, buildings, lands, treasure, finance and Constitution. Reinstate Boeselager. Express disappointment at the mass resignations from the Order which would follow this course. If Burke doesn't resign, move him.

In the event, on Tuesday 24th January 2017, Matthew Festing had a meeting with the Pope. After this meeting he was asked to resign. Burke spent nearly an hour trying to dissuade him. Festing, however, did resign. There was deep dissatisfaction inside the Order with his leadership.

His resignation was formally accepted by the Sovereign Council of the Knights of Malta on Saturday 28th January 2017. During that meeting, Matthew Festing was heard to describe the Pope as his enemy. The use of the word enemy in this context was later denied by Ludwig Hoffmann-Rumerstein who was present at the meeting.

In the view of many in the Order, Festing had become an anachronistic anti-Papal nuisance, hankering after a quaint return to 1950s-style Catholicism, the old rite Latin Mass and top-down autocratic leadership. In his final three or four years he had become increasingly alienated from the Knights' top government and couldn't always get his way on key appointments.

Matthew Festing's interim replacement as Grand Master of the Knights of Malta was Ludwig Hoffmann-Rumerstein (Austria). Albrecht von Boeselager was reinstated as Grand Chancellor.

At the time of Festing's resignation, the Pope also appointed a pontifical delegate for the Knights of Malta, who would act above and over the head of Raymond Burke as the Order's chief liaison with the Holy See. Burke was still technically in office as patron of the Order, but was out of power.

The name of the pontifical delegate was not made public until Saturday 4th February 2017, when it became clear that Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu had been designated. He was to be the Pope's sole spokesman on all matters to do with the Knights of Malta. Beccui was also charged with the task of overseeing a moral and spiritual renewal of the Order with a special focus on the fully-professed knights such as Festing and Critien.

Within the Knights of Malta, there are only 55 fully-professed knights out of a total worldwide membership of 13,000. In recent times the impression has been given that this élite group has been using the charitable work of the Order as an expedient cover for geopolitical machinations and forced influence. Such behaviour seems to be signally at odds with the spiritual emphases of the group's religious vows to obey the Pope. It also appears to be manifestly out of harmony with the culture of the lay majority in the organisation who do the visible public work.

A senior Knights of Malta insider, Erich Lobkowicz (Germany), said that the row had been a battle between all that Pope Francis stood for and a tiny clique of ultraconservative frilly old diehards in the Church; diehards who had missed the train in every conceivable respect.

The Pope himself was known to be wary of Catholic chivalric orders, which he worried could show signs of profligacy and spiritual worldliness. And the Knights of Malta, in particular, badly mishandled a child sex abuse scandal when Matthew Festing was in charge of the Order.

The Pope-given task of the newly-imposed pontifical delegate was to work closely with Ludwig Hoffmann-Rumerstein to ensure a spiritual and moral renewal of the Knights of Malta. Under Burke and Festing, spiritual formation processes for the fully-professed Knights had been insufficiently robust.

By the end of February 2017 it was clear that root-and-branch reforms were needed at the top of the Knights of Malta power structure. The leadership team was an aging, élitist clique, conspicuously unfit for purpose.

There was a requirement, for example, that the Grand Master had to be of noble (aristocratic) lineage extending back at least 150 years. In other words, at the top, the Knights of Malta was a closed bloodline club. At the beginning of 2017, only twelve of the Knights were eligible for election as Grand Master under this de jure bloodline restriction. Most of those were very old and one was 97. And there was no upper age limit at which the Grand Master must retire.

It was no surprise, therefore, that among the reforms being actively discussed by the Knights of Malta, at the prompting of the Vatican, was the abolition of the noble birth restriction for the Grand Master. And another suggested change was the introduction of an age limit for the post holder.

On Easter Saturday 15th April 2017, Angelo Becciu wrote to Matthew Festing. He said that the Vatican wanted Festing to stay away from Rome on Saturday 29th April 2017. On this second date, the Knights of Malta were holding a Complete Council of State to initiate a review of the Constitutions of the Order and to take some important votes.

The Vatican didn't want Festing anywhere near the Council or its voting sessions. The problems of the Order were complex. The Knights of Malta were disoriented by their recent crisis. Matthew Festing's presence would reopen wounds only recently healed. Having him around the Council on that day would prevent the event taking place in an atmosphere of peace and regained harmony.

This was an unusually strong letter from the Vatican. It followed a bumbling and disingenuous interview which Festing had given to the Catholic Herald three weeks earlier here (23.03.17). On Saturday 29th April 2017, in Rome, the Knights of Malta elected a new temporary leader called Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto. This was a democratic decision taken in accordance with the wishes of the Vatican. Previously, Sanguinetto had been Grand Prior of the Order's Rome chapter. His new title was Lieutenant of the Grand Master. He was elected to be in post for one year only and to hold the same powers as a real Grand Master for that period.

A year later, on Wednesday 2nd May 2018, Sanguinetto was elected for life to be the 80th Grand Master of the Order. His election was seen as a decisive move away from the quaint spiritual fascism of the Festing syndicate years. Sanguinetto knew how to work peaceably with the Vatican and was not belligerently anti-papal. Beneath the surface, major constitutional reforms were brewing. The Knights of Malta could no longer retain credibility as a charitable front for geopolitical subterfuge.

There is, of course, a bigger picture on the reverse of this élite public portrait. It is an occult image. In attempting to block the gold-backed benevolence of the Asia-led global currency resets and their associated humanitarian and prosperity funds, the Order has hazarded its own survival.

At this fast-moving end-time moment, the Knights of Malta find themselves frozen on the wrong side of history, slow-cursed by ancient documents they can't control. The more percipient among them will be aware of two geopolitical certainties: (1) Books will be opened; (2) The old centre cannot hold.

As religion is left behind and more grown-up ways of being human are explored, a new spirituality is emerging on Planet Earth.

Transpersonal and transdimensional perspectives are becoming common. Human origins are being questioned. Establishment histories of human culture are being revised.

The influence of benevolent extraterrestrial teachers is becoming apparent. A new alertness to the return of the angels is manifesting.

People are having potent and positive experiences with prayer, invocation, affirmation, meditation, dream management, vocal toning, yoga, energy work and Kundalini. Sexuality is being affirmed.

Unusual children are being born. Signs and wonders abound.

Maps of the hidden spiritual anatomy of the human body are being constructed as its light sigils, power-points and portals are identified through study and spiritual practice.

People are learning to leave and re-enter their physical bodies at will, and to use their resurrection and ascension bodies for spiritual work during sleep.

New spiritual information is coming to light. Ordinary people are becoming clairsentient. The possibility of substantive communication with animals, plants, water, stone and celestial bodies is being proved in experience.

The recognition that there are animal and plant species on the surface of the planet which are more evolved, spiritually, than most humans is dawning.

Received theories about the geology of the planet are being discarded, as it becomes clear that Spaceship Earth has enormous internal chambers and tunnel systems miles down in its crust, many thousands of which are not aquifer cavities. These chambers interconnect. Many are illuminated, support plant growth and are inhabited by spiritually advanced civilisations, including ancient human populations.

These civilisations are transdimensionally connected with the civilisations of other planets in the Solar System and with those of other star systems. Visitors routinely travel in both directions. There are said to be about four hundred thousand active ET bases on Earth, most of which are invisible to physical human sight. These bases are distributed throughout what the surface human population thinks of as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the lithosphere.

Earth did not originate in our Solar System. It was brought here from a solar system in Sirius about sixty-five million years ago. This was before the first humans arrived on the planet. The Sirius system (Canis Major and Canis Minor constellations; 8.6 light years away) has many hundreds of water planets, some of which are the home planets of the cetaceans we know in our own oceans. Earth was transited to the Solar System because there was a recently-vacated orbital space around the Sun. The previous planet in this orbit had been blown-up during a conflict between warring powergroups among its inhabitants. That planet was called Maldek (alternative names: Maldec, Sunata or Oodoo).

Certain of the Egyptian pyramids have internal structures precisely aligned with where Sirius appeared in the night sky when they were first constructed. It is possible that some of the benevolent ET bases now active on Earth came with the planet when it was transited from Sirius. In the oral traditions of at least one ancient and still shamanic African tribe, the Sirius connection lives on in their story cycles.

In the unfolding New Age, concepts of ecological love and economic sharing are gaining ground.

Books are being published, or uncovered, which are better written, better informed, more spiritual and more authoritative than any scripture of any Mediterranean religion yet invented.

A new respect for our spiritual seniors in the East is growing, particularly with regard to Sai Baba, Maitreya, Saint Germain, Sananda and Djwhal Khul. Two of these are known well by other names in traditional Christian and Islamic cultures: Maitreya (Christ, the Imam Mahdi) and Sananda (Yesua Ben Joseph, Jesus of Nazareth, the Prophet Jesus).

In the Nag Hammadi Library (discovered in 1945) and the Dead Sea Scrolls (discovered in 1947), Christ is referred to as the Teacher of Righteousness, and Jesus is referred to as the Pierced Messiah. Christ and Jesus are two separate people. They work together closely on the physical and spiritual planes.

Internet spiritual communities are freeing people from the tyranny of spiritual censure and spiritual censorship by establishment religiosities. And they are enabling and encouraging an individuated exploration of previously off-limit metaphysical ideas experienced, but not openly expressed, within the mystical traditions of all faiths and philosophies.

Down here in the Matrix, this kind of talk can be challenging. Human beings do not own Planet Earth. The surface population of human beings is a temporary visitor to the planet. It is part of the Explorer Race, attending a 3D Mystery School. The surface human civilisation is here briefly and will soon pass on to other planets, star systems and parallel realities. Three related terms are in common use: False Flag, Black Flag and Black Swan. These can sometimes be confused.

A False Flag Attack is when a national government, or one of its covert agencies, carries out a terrorist attack on its own people and then falsely blames that atrocity on an enemy in order to launch a pre-prepared 'retaliatory' attack on the enemy.

In the initial stages of the newsbreak, the mainstream media are complicit, knowingly or unknowingly, in broadcasting the news of the attack in a tendentious manner.

In some cases, the news management outcome (propaganda) is designed to whip up public outrage so that new war, or war-on-terror, laws can be passed.

These new laws reduce citizen freedoms in the name of 'national security', and further empower establishment agencies to act unilaterally, and often in an unaccountable manner, in order to to confront the perpetrators of the perceived outrage.

Sometimes, complicit media outlets are provided with information about a False Flag Attack before it actually happens. An oft-cited example of this happened during 9/11 in September 2001.

The UK BBC (a news-managed deep state security outlet) reported on live television that WTC Building 7 had collapsed more than 20 minutes before it actually did collapse. While the collapse was being reported to camera by a BBC journalist, the fully intact building could be seen, still standing, in the BBC's live video feed in the background. Twenty minutes later, the free-fall controlled demolition took place. No planes, or holograms of planes were involved. Analysis suggests that the demolition of WTC7 was a pre-planned New York City insurance job, piggybacking on the main event of the pre-planned Twin Towers demolition.

A persistent feature of False Flag Attacks is that the contractors, agents or crisis actors who cause them often disappear afterwards. So do the key witnesses. If they don't accept silence bribes, they are quietly assassinated by tradecraft means such as poisoning, car crashes, plane crashes, 'suicides' or 'heart attacks'.

Sometimes a government will have prior knowledge of a planned outrage in advance; one that is being prepared by a foreign agency. The government may then deliberately choose to disregard this intelligence, in order to manufacture a political or business benefit from the outcome.

The term Black Flag Attack means the same thing as False Flag Attack.

A Black Swan Event is different. This is something, often quite small, which happens unexpectedly, but gives rise to major long-term consequences as time passes. These consequences could not reasonably have been foreseen, but become clear in hindsight as the downstream analysis matures.

A single happening can be both a False Flag Attack and a Black Swan Event, even though the two terms mean different things.

On the 18th March 2015, Washington's Blog (here) published a list of forty-seven well-documented False Flag Attacks. Some of these were planned in detail, but not carried out; others were executed as planned. In each case, sometime after the event, a government official admitted to the False Flag nature of the atrocity, either orally or in writing.

Here are sixteen examples of False Flag Attacks taken from that original list of forty-seven:

(1) 1931: Japanese troops set off a small explosion on a train track, and falsely blamed it on China in order to justify an invasion of Manchuria. This is now known as the 'Mukden Incident' or the 'Manchurian Incident'. The Tokyo International Military Tribunal found that: “Several of the participators in the plan, including Hashimoto [a high-ranking Japanese army officer], have on various occasions admitted their part in the plot and have stated that the object of the incident was to afford an excuse for the occupation of Manchuria by the Kwantung Army ….” More here and here.

(2) 1939: A major with the Nazi SS admitted at the Nuremberg trials (1945-49) that under orders from the chief of the Gestapo, he and some other Nazi operatives faked attacks on their own people and resources. These attacks were blamed on the Poles, to justify the invasion of Poland. More here.

(4) 1939: Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev admitted in writing that the Soviet Union’s Red Army shelled the Russian village of Mainila. The attack was blamed on Finland and used as a basis for launching the 'Winter War' against Finland. Russian president Boris Yeltsin agreed that Russia had been the aggressor. More here.

(5) 1940: The Russian Parliament, current Russian President Putin and former Soviet leader Gorbachev all admit that Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin, ordered his secret police to execute 22,000 Polish army officers and civilians at Katyn. This was then falsely blamed on the Nazis. More here.

(14) 1962: As admitted by the US government, recently declassified documents show that the American Joint Chiefs of Staff signed off on a plan to blow up American airplanes and to commit terrorist acts on American soil. This would then be blamed on the Cubans, in order to justify an invasion of Cuba to overthrow Fidel Castro. In the end the invasion was never launched. More here and here.

(17) 1964: The NSA admits that it lied about what really happened in the Gulf of Tonkin incident, manipulating data to make it look as though North Vietnamese boats fired on a US ship. This was done to create a false justification for the Vietnam War. More here and here.

(20) 1978: The German government admitted that the German secret service detonated a bomb in the outer wall of a prison and planted escape tools on a prisoner (a member of the Red Army Faction) who the agency wished to frame for the bombing. More here and here.

(21) 1984: A Mossad agent admits that his agency planted a radio transmitter in Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s compound in Tripoli, Libya. This broadcast fake terrorist transmissions recorded by Mossad, in order to frame Gaddaffi as a terrorist supporter. US President Ronald Reagan ordered the bombing of the compound immediately afterwards. More in this book here.

(27) 1999: Senior Russian military and intelligence officers admit that the KGB blew up Russian apartment buildings. The attacks were falsely blamed on the Chechens, in order to justify an invasion of Chechnya. More here and here.

(28) 2002: According to the US Washington Post, Indonesian police admit that the Indonesian military murdered American teachers in Papua New Guinea.The murders were blamed on a Papuan separatist group in order to get the US to list the group as a terrorist organisation. More here.

(31) 2001: Senior police officials in Genoa, Italy, admitted that at the G8 summit in Genoa they planted two Molotov cocktails, and faked the stabbing of a police officer, in order to justify a violent crackdown on the protesters. More here.

(32) 2001: The US falsely blamed Iraq for playing a role in the 9/11 attacks (as shown in a memo from the Defense Secretary). This was one of the main justifications for launching the Iraq war. Even after the 9/11 Commission admitted that there was no connection, Dick Cheney said that the evidence was 'overwhelming' that al-Qaeda had a relationship with Saddam Hussein’s régime, and that he (Cheney) 'probably' had information unavailable to the Commission, and that the media was not ‘doing their homework’ in reporting such ties. Top US government officials now admit that the Iraq war was really launched as an oil grab, not as a retaliation for 9/11, or as an adventure in search of weapons of mass destruction. Despite previous lone wolf claims, many US government officials now say that 9/11 was a state-sponsored terrorist act, but Iraq was not the state involved. The US falsely blamed 9/11 on Iraq, when it knew Iraq had nothing to do with it. More here and here.

(34) 2003: Police outside a 2003 European Union summit in Greece were filmed planting Molotov cocktails on a peaceful protester. More here.

(37) 2005: Undercover Israeli soldiers admit to having thrown stones at other Israeli soldiers so that they could blame it on Palestinians. This was used as an excuse to crack down on peaceful protests by the Palestinians. More here.

(43) 2013: High-level American sources admit that the Turkish government (a fellow NATO member) carried out chemical weapons attacks inside Syria which were blamed on the Syrian government. A high-ranking Turkish government official admitted on tape that there were plans to carry out attacks and blame them on Syria. More here.

(44) 2014: The Ukrainian security chief admits that the sniper attacks which started the coup in Kyiv were carried out in order to frame others. Ukrainian officials admit that their snipers fired on both sides, so as to create maximum chaos. More here and here.

It wasn't just Jesus of Nazareth, Apollonius of Tyana and St Francis of Assisi who were shamans. Shamanism is undergoing a revival today.

The emergence of the New Spirituality in the West has focussed educated attention on the healing and nature-working abilities which are inherent in all of us.
 
Dr Leslie Gray, executive director and founder of the Woodfish Institute, is a Native American shaman and a university lecturer in anthropology and research methodology. Based in San Francisco (USA), she has studied with medicine people and elders from various tribal backgrounds.

She advocates a new vision of health care: the integration of ancient healing and modern medicine. And she consults with individuals and organizations on the practice of ecopsychology.

Leslie Gray is a bridge person. She links two cultures, ancient and modern. And like all shamans, she links two dimensions. She travels in full waking consciousness from the physical world to the spiritual world and back. Her work in shamanic healing requires this.

Controlled transdimensional travelling enables the shaman to access powerful spirit-healing technologies and powerful spirit-healing people. Some of these may be highly evolved animal-people of a kind known as power animals in traditional cultures.

All human beings have the innate ability to develop safe, conscious, transdimensional travelling abilities. And all human beings have the innate ability to become spiritual healers. Children, in particular, find these shamanic processes natural and easy.
 
The shamanic journey involves entering an altered or non-ordinary state of consciousness, usually with the help of sonic driving: a repetitive, monotonous drumming, rattling or changing of body postures. These create what Gray calls "trance-portation."

The work of shamans is the business of travelling either to the upper world to bring back down power, information or healing, or to the lower world to bring back up personal empowerment for living here in the middle, physical world.

Most shamans view the universe as composed of these three realms. The upper world tends to be the land of the ancestors, the middle world that of ordinary consciousness, and the lower world the place of power animals.

The shamanic journey begins with the traveller finding an opening to another realm of consciousness. While in some cultures people literally dig a hole in the floor to provide this entrance, in others they regard the opening as a phenomenon within the shaman's consciousness.

The nature of this opening is highly individual. Leslie Gray invites people to think of an opening into the earth from ordinary reality, to enter that opening, go down a tunnel and come out the other side; and from there, to explore the lower world. As people become more proficient at doing this, they begin to encounter allies in that lower world. And they use information gained from communing with these allies to help themselves or others back up here in the physical, middle world.

Traveling to the upper world is similar. The only difference is that you choose an opening that will take you up rather than down, such as a whirlwind, a hollow tree trunk, or a fireplace and chimney. Whatever comes to you as your personal opening is what you use.

One thing which Leslie Gray refuses to do is to tell people what they can expect to find in their travels. "Part of what is empowering to them," she says, "is developing their own maps. For me to develop a map for them would be the very opposite of personal empowerment and would make them dependent on my worldview - not just of this world, but of all the worlds. At the core of the process of acquiring power in shamanism is the ability to find things out for yourself, to know what the upper and lower worlds are like."

Shamans always journey with a mission. The art of shamanism is mastering the ability to bring back important information to heal yourself or others. It is not just journeying to see pretty pictures. A person might do this in the beginning as a way of mastering the technique, but after that, he or she should visit the other worlds with a mission or purpose.

There is nothing to fear on a shamanic journey if it is done properly. A shamanic journey has two advantageous features. First, the beings in the other worlds won't tell the traveller more than she or he can handle at a given time. And second, a guardian spirit generally accompanies the journeyer as a protector. "I think you have more to fear crossing the street in a major city," comments Gray, "than you do going on a shamanic journey with a power animal."

Leslie Gray fosters and promotes what she calls "reciprocal transformation." The idea is to make the inevitable encounter between indigenous systems and technological systems mutually enhancing.

She argues that "conventional analyses have primarily acknowledged the manifest poverty of contemporary indigenous cultures in comparison with the obvious material wealth of industrial-technological societies. In the 21st century, however, the spectre of planetary destruction forces us to also see 'wealth' in wisdom about how to live sanely on the earth, in practices of sustainable land use and in evolved knowledge of community-building - all of which exist in the traditions of autochthonous peoples. Correspondingly, mounting evidence of imminent environmental catastrophe forces us to see 'poverty' in the underdeveloped ecopsychology of the technoculture."
